Friends of Nesbitt Memorial Library will present a program highl ighting the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center (LAJWC) on Thursday, July 18 at 2 p.m. The speaker, Anne Truchard Linville, will share exper tise gained from working as a volunteer at LAJWC in Austin for over 25 years.
Anne has led tours, planted, helped collect seeds and more during her decades of involvement. The goal was always to add beauty to the gardens and educate the public. As a result, Anne’s learned tips to improve her own personal outdoor space. She will pass on these tips as she reviews her learning curve.
She has lived in many places, but Anne grew up in the Mentz/Bernardo area which enables her to relate to challenges faced in our little piece of Texas. After a career in nursing, she continued her fascination with growing things by volunteering at the Center. Through experience and training, she has become a strong advocate of native plants since they offer so many advantages of “being happy” in their native environment.
LBJWC was founded in 1982 to protect and preserve natural landscapes. With miles of walking trails and educational exhibits, 900 species of native Texas plants are among both garden and natural settings. Cultivated gardens cover 9 acres. Walking trails through the native plants encompass 284 acres. The center promotes the environmental benefits of native plant landscapes.
Learn more from Anne as you gather tips to apply to your own garden. A little knowledge can go a long way to achieve your garden dreams. All of this can lead to “Creating a Happy Outdoor Space”—the title of the program!
