ABC assists Columbus Flag Fund

Columbus is famous for all the American flags around town, especially up and down Milam Street, thanks to local businessman, Dale Alexander, who started it all nearly ten years ago and has been installing, maintaining and replacing them as needed. A fund is set up at Columbus State Bank for anyone who wishes to contribute. Simply tell them you’re donating to the Flag Fund, and they’ll take it from there.

As Mr. Alexander ages, as we all do sooner or later, he has retained help from the Columbus Boy Scouts, a couple of which replaced all the damaged and or frayed flags in time for both Memorial Day and the Fourth of July.

In honor of those scouts, and Mr. Alexander, the Board of Directors of A Better Columbus recently presented them with a generous check to help purchase more flags. Pictured are board members Trish Priest, Billy Kahn, Lori An Gobert, Lindsay McNutt and Barbara Peterman, along with Dale Alexander and two of the Boy Scouts.

ABC is a nonprofit, 501(c)3, recognized by the IRS and created to make Columbus better. Their vision is to connect residents, visitors, and businesses to encourage growth while celebrating our heritage. Learn more about ABC at www. ABColumbus. org.

To date, they have commissioned three amazing murals in Downtown Columbus and have donated a dozen new trash receptacles to the downtown area in collaboration with the Columbus Chamber of Commerce, Columbus Lions Club and Columbus Rotary Club.

They curated those beautiful floral baskets hanging around town and, with a generous grant from the Columbus Rotary Club, made them available to local merchants at a reasonable, affordable price.

Additionally, ABC helps new businesses get off the ground and has helped existing businesses find funding.
