Filing period for May 2023 elections opens Jan. 18

If you are interested in serving your community as an elected official, Jan. 18 is first day to file an application for a place on the ballot.

Local political subdivisions, such as cities, schools, hospital and water districts, will have their regular, general elections on May 6. Special elections to fill vacancies will also take place.

Information regarding what vacancies, terms, and applications will be posted at each local political subdivision. The last day to file for a place on the ballot is Feb. 17 at 5 p.m.

Those interested in filing are encouraged to check their voter registration.

“Most applications for candidacy require you to be a registered voter for that territory,” the county election office said in a prepared release.
