HIDTA investigation results in arrest of Columbus man on drug charges

An ongoing narcotics investigation by the Westside (HIDTA) Narcotics Task Force resulted in the arrest of one suspect.

Members of the Austin County Regional Special Response Team (SRT) executed search warrants in Columbus which resulted in the arrest of Eric Belmonte, 39.

Belmonte was arrested for an active felony warrant for the charge of manufacture and/or delivery of a controlled substance PG 1. Belmonte attempted to flee from law enforcement at the time of his arrest but was taken into custody by SRT members without incident.

A search warrant was executed at Belmonte’s residence in the 400 blk of Jones Street, in Columbus. Task Force Officers seized crack cocaine, powder cocaine, methamphetamine, MDMA, marijuana, fentanyl, and money.

Belmonte was later booked into the Colorado County Jail.

The Columbus Police Department and the Colorado County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the operation.

The Westside Narcotics Task Force covers four counties and is comprised of investigators from the Austin County Sheriff’s Office, Bellville PD, Sealy PD, Hempstead PD, Waller County Sheriff’s Office, Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado County Sheriff’s Office, and DEA. The Austin County District Attorney’s Office assisted with the investigation.
