Weimar All-Stars go 1-1 in bracket play

The Weimar Minor Softball All-Star team competed in the All-Star tournament at BP&W Park in Sealy this past week and finished with a 1-1 record in bracket play.

On Tuesday, June 18, Weimar started their bracket play against Twin Cities and wasted no time settling into the tournament.

After the first three innings, Weimar held a 5-0 lead over Twin Cities and put the game on cruise control. Ellie Reeves got things started for Weimar’s offense when she hit a triple in the first inning which opened the scoring for Weimar.

Lainey Melnar and Myla Pavlu each contributed a double to the offensive effort in game one of bracket play and it really sparked the team.

Defensively they had just as strong of a performance in game one. They allowed only one run through six innings.

Reeves shared the responsibilities in the circle with Caitlyn Roberts, and they combined to give up one run on four hits while walking three batters. The duo also struck out 12 of the 26 batters they faced in game one.

This was a good confidence boost for Weimar heading into game two where it was a packed house for the showdown between Weimar and Washington County.

Vs. Washington County, 4-2, L Game two of bracket play was easily one of the toughest games for Weimar this season. The stands were filled to the brim leaving only standing room only for most fans.

The highly anticipated game did not disappoint either and was a baseball fans dream. Outstanding pitching, timely offense and stonewall defense were on full display in this game.

The first two innings of the contest were scoreless, but in the third, both teams left a mark on the scoreboard. Washington County led the game at the end of the third with a score of 2-1 but Weimar was not dead yet.

They generated a good bit of momentum, but Washington County always sniffed it out before it could go anywhere. The fifth inning mirrored as Washington County added two more runs to their lead and Weimar scored one.

They kept things within reach but ultimately came up short in a very intense and competitive game for both teams.
