Columbus minor softball splits in bracket play

Columbus minor softball splits in bracket play

After a 1-2 outing in pool play the Columbus Minor Softball All-Stars entered bracket play with a chip on their shoulder and looked to make a splash at the Sealy Tournament.

They played two very competitive teams in their two backet games and battled to the very end and even though they were eliminated they showed that they were up to the challenge.

@ Bellville, 12-3, W Much like how they started pool play the Columbus Minor Softball team’s offense came ready to play in game one.

These guys could not be stopped on the bases and took advantage of every opportunity presented to them while running the bases. Almost every player in the line-up recorded a hit but Bree Krepec stood out hitting the only triple in the contests.

Defensively, Columbus received another outstanding performance from Harper Kramr in the circle. Kramr faced 22 batters and struck out 10 of them through 5.2 innings.

She gave up one run on one hit while walking five batters before Krpec came in relief and secured the third out via a strikeout.

Columbus was feeling good after winning game number one and set their sights on the Burleson County Minor Softball All-Stars for game number two, looking to earn a spot in the finals.

@ Burleson County, 4-2, L In game two Columbus found themselves in a 4-1 hole by the end of the first inning. They had five more innings to climb out of it so they went right to work.

Columbus went on to record 11 total hits in the game, where they continued their streak of potent offense. They just struggled to find home plate.

Burleson County constantly frustrated Columbus base runners with stout defense but Columbus stayed right on their heels and waited for their opportunities to come.

With the offense stymied Columbus looked to their defense to provide a spark. After a minor slip up in the first inning the Columbus defense rose to the occasion and shutout Burleson County for the rest of the game.

Columbus’ offense broke through for one last run in the top of the sixth, but Burleson County closed out the game and eliminated Columbus.
