It’s a bird, It’s a plane, NO, IT’S BOOKGIRL

As summer is now in full swing and Linda Cevere, better known as “Bookgirl” has made her way all the way from Latvia to help children and young adults across Austin and Colorado County keep their academic skills sharp.

Cevere works for Southwestern Advantage which is an educational company based in Nashville, TN that helps college students pay their tuition and travel while doing so.

“They give opportunities to college students like me to come here during the summertime. It’s like my summer job,” Cevere said. “They trained us and gave us some mentors to shadow so we really get the hang of going door-to-door. It requires a lot of discipline.”

While going door-todoor seems like something that you would not see your average Texan doing, especially in this heat bur Cevere looks at it in a different light. She sees it as an opportunity to learn skills for her major that can only be taught through experiences like this outside of the classroom.

“I am in strategic communications, and this is like my summer program, so I only come here for the summert ime,” Cevere said. “This helps me learn communication skills because I am going door-to-door, so I am interacting with people and learning about their body language, and it also helps pay for my college back at home.”

Last year Cevere was in Texas working closer to Conroe but this year she has made her way to Austin and Colorado County. “I have already met a few families here in Sealy and am excited to meet so many other amazing families,” Cevere said.

Cevere offers a wide variety of books from your typical math, science and history books to books about shapes and colors. Her catalog goes from young children as young as first grade to high school.

Be on the lookout for Bookgirl this summer as she may be knocking on your door here in the coming weeks.
