COLUMBUS SOFTBALL
The Columbus Lady Cardinals have received their All-District honors for their efforts on the field, but they also received All-District honors for their accomplishments in the classroom.
16 Lady Cards players were named to the Academic All-District team, which is their entire roster.
Ella Berger, McKenna Booker, Lauren Braden, Ellie Brown, Allia Cranek, Peyton Drozd, Presley Drozd, Marry Fitzgerald, Molly Garcia, Karlee Mathis, Jillian Miksch, Taylor Morrow, Mia Post, Sydnie Shepard, Abigail Wiggs and Sophia Wolters were all named to the Academic All-District team.
To be selected for the Academic All-District team players must be a consistent contributor on the field, and they also have to maintain a 3.5 GPA. This requires a considerable amount of effort.
Playing a varsity sport is very demanding of students because they show up early and stay late at school for practices. Everywhere in between that time is filled with schoolwork and probably actual work for some of these students.
During the season the stress of making sure grades are in order all while making a push into the playoffs can be nerve racking for anyone. But 16 Lady Cards made it look easy.
Considering this team made school history by making it to the fifth round of the playoffs for the first time ever. They played and defeated many talented teams and put all their efforts into chasing down a spot in the State Championship game.
Sounds stressful enough, but the Lady Cards never flinched. While they were making school history, they also had to deal with their finals to end their school year which is also a stressful time of year.
With those two situations combined, the Lady Cards were under a lot of pressure, but they met the challenges headon. Even though they did not make it to the State Championship game they finished the season with 16 players having a 3.5 GPA or higher.
