Sign up for Fair Queen Contest now open

The sign-up for the Fair Queen Contest for girls ages 15-18 and Junior Fair Queen Contest for girls 11-14 is now open.

Contestants must pay an entry fee of $75 provided by a sponsor, sell a minimum of 50 season passes to the fair and provide a head shot and entry form to be entered.

Junior Fair Queen Contestants must pay an entry fee of $50 and sell a minimum of 25 tickets. The highest selling contestant gets a gift card.

Outside of the fee and the ticket sales, the requirements that follow are the same for both Fair Queen and Junior Fair Queen.

The contestant that sells the most fair tickets and carnival passes will be crowned as Membership Queen, who will also be awarded the Pamela Potter Honorary Scholarship of $2,000 and a buckle. The Membership Runner- up receives a scholarship in the amount of $500.

The Fair Queen Leslie Schmidt Heard Memorial Scholarship of $1,000 and a buckle as well. The runner-up receives a Megan Bloecher Memorial Scholarship of $500.

Any contestant that has previously won Membership Queen can run only for Fair Queen, and any prior Fair Queen can only run for Membership Queen. Queens will be expected to represent the county at 80% or more of all area parades in the county.

Contestants must be of good moral standing, as well as never married, divorced and not have given birth or expecting a child.

The contest will take place on Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Colorado County Fairgrounds Founder’s Hall with a private interview with judges and a pageant for contestants around 7:30 p.m. Contestants should be at Fairgrounds no later than 6 p.m.

An informational meeting will be held at the Fair Grounds office on Tuesday, June 25 or Wednesday, June 26 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. for contestant sign up.
