TxDOT completes two I-10 closures this week

The contractors in charge of this stage of the I-10 expansion project have been closing sections of the highway each night and reopening by 5 a.m.

The lane closures in question occurred on the main lanes of I-10 going eastbound. On Monday, the highway was closed from FM 949 to Bernardo Road. Drivers were forced to use the FM 949 exit and take the frontage road until they could re-enter the main lanes of I-10 after Bernardo Road.

On Tuesday night, the construction continued down the project as the road closure began on Bernardo Road and continued to the end of the project west of Beckendorff Road. As with the traffic change on Monday, drivers exited at Bernardo Road before continuing down the eastbound frontage road. Drivers re-entered the highway at the Beckendorff entrance.

Road closures of this nature are likely throughout the multiyear duration of the project. The first stage of the expansion involved improvements to the frontage roads that run alongside I-10 on either side.

The freshly paved and painted frontage roads will function as detours around future traffic changes or highway closures.

TxDOT has promised to continue to give updates on potential road closures, however, closures are subject to change and may not happen in the order of their initial report.
