10 Ladycats selected to All-District team

10 Ladycats selected to All-District team

The Weimar Ladycats may not have gotten back to the State Championship, but that did not stop 10 of their players from being selected to the All-District team.

Before the announcement of the two All-District teams were announced there were a few individual awards handed out, of which the Ladycats won two of them.

The Ladycats junior pitcher Taylor Smith was named Co-pitcher of the year after dominating the circle. Smith rarely took a game off and struck out five or more batters a game all season long.

The second of the two for the Ladycats was senior catcher Hannah Fisbeck, named Utility Player of the Year. Fisbeck was the perfect Swiss army knife for the Ladycats this season.

She slotted into any position needed defensively for the Ladycats and took care of business at the plate. Fisbeck put on a show in her senior season and was recognized for her efforts by winning the Utility Player of the Year award.

Now onto the fi rst All-District team which saw three Ladycats make the cut. Izzy Reeves, Chloe Grifaldo and Tate Griffin were all chosen to be on the first All-District team.

Reeves and Gri fa ldo played excel lently throughout the season, combining timely offense and stout defense. Griffin joined her teammates on the first All-District team as a freshman.

Despite Griffin being one of the youngest players in the district she stood out thanks to her explosiveness and athleticism. Griffin’s speed was a problem for opposing defenses while base running.

Griffin also made several dazzling plays from her shortstop position to boost her stock to make the first All-District team.

The second All-District team saw three more Ladycats selected to this roster, and they were Ashley Treece, Claire Pavlu and Madison Luckey. This trio were some of the best hitters in the district.

They were a threat to hit doubles and triples every time they stepped up to the plate. They earned their spots on the All-District team and were a huge part of the Ladycats success this season.

Two players were listed as honorable mentions, and they were Faith Cantwell and Alazay Moreno. These two players may not have made the two Al l-District teams but their contributions to the Ladycats success did not go unnoticed.

They were two players that brought a sort of stability to the team. Night in and night out their coaches and teammates knew what they were going to get out of them.

Their contributions to the team did not always show up on the box score but they were vital to the team’s success this season.

With the season now officially over the Ladycats can now look to the next season and begin preparing to build off this season’s success.

Clarie Pavlu was selected to the second All-District team.
