Cards have 10 players selected for All-District team, Kuhn takes MVP
The Columbus Cardinals season has ended and with that comes All-District honors.
The Cards had 10 players make the All-District team, one of which was named the District MVP.
The winner of the District MVP award was senior pitcher Kaleb Kuhn. His pitches in some games were simply unhittable no matter how hard the opposition tried.
Kuhn recorded several no-hitters, shutouts, and double-digit strikeout games throughout the season. With this list of accolades, he was able to cap off his senior season with the MVP award.
The first All-District saw three Cardinals selected to the team. Trevor Berger, Brody Tribe and James Janak were the three chosen.
Berger and Tribe were the best one two punch in the infield they were dynamic and always on their toes ready to make plays, they were a coach’s dream. Offensively they were just as good.
Tribe was an RBI machine for the Cards and helped drive home runs in almost every game this season. Berger took more of a chip away approach to the offensive side of the ball.
He was not the biggest hitter, but when he contacted the ball, he was one of the shiftiest base runners in the district. He kept defenses guessing and would make them pay when they guessed wrong to help him earn a spot on the first All-District team.
Janak was the perfect complement to Kuhn on the mound for the Cardinals. Janak filled in nicely when Kuhn rested. Janak, like Kuhn, averaged around 6-7 strikeouts a game and recorded multiple shutouts and a few no-hitters this season.
The second All-District team saw only one Cardinal selected and it was Dylan Zajicek. He was the guy who kept the team even-keeled with his play. Night in and night out, Zajicek brought energy and effort to the lineup, and because of that he was very productive on both sides of the ball and helped the Cardinals go on a deep playoff run.
Five Cardinals were listed as honorable mentions for the All-District team, and they were Trinity Thompson, Josh Everett, Lane Kulhanek, Ryan Carter and Britton Wolters.
The two seniors, Everett and Thompson, were great a leading by example and really showing what it means to wear the Cardinal uniform. They showed up every single game and produced when they were in the lineup and made sure everyone was up in the dugout watching when they weren’t.
As for the other three, they absorbed everything like sponges. Like the two seniors they produced when they played, especially Wolters. Wolters was a major contributor on offense and made the most of the opportunities given to him in his freshman season.
