The Columbus Garden Club put on their annual plant and bake sale earlier this month and held a successful event for the community. Attendees came out to support the clubs many projects that promote the beautification of Columbus and benefit local high school students through the club’s scholarship program.
The club wants to thank Brookshire Bros. for once again providing space for the sale and to everyone that came out to share the love of plants and gardening.
Members of the community who won items in the scholarship drawing were: Marian Schonenberg (potting bench), Gene Schobel (flower/stand), Pam Schertz (metal hummingbird yard art), Gaynell Jones (large flower pot), Angela Touchie (plant), and Travis Wegenhoft (garden cart).
Columbus High School students that helped with the sale were: Nusaiba Arif, Melanie Cabrera and Stephanie Cabrera.
These students and others who participate in the club’s Youth in the Garden program have assisted since last October with many projects in the gardens around town and cleaning roadsides during April’s Trash Off event, contributing a total of 73.25 community service hours.
