Ladycats fight back in third, struggle in fourth in close loss

The Ladycats put themselves in somewhat of a tough position in the second quarter of Tuesday's game against Schulenburg. They had a rough offensive outing in that period before making a major turnaround in the third quarter. They could not sustain the defensive pressure in the fourth quarter as they fizzled out late in a 31-27 loss.

Weimar had a low scoring game that started even in the first quarter as both teams struggled to get things going. Weimar took a 6-5 advantage in the opening period to take a narrow lead into a second quarter in which they had one of their worst offensive outings. They scored just one point as Schulenburg built up a small lead going into halftime. The third quarter went a lot better for Weimar as they punched in their first and only double-digit period of the game. They scored 12 points in the third with a seven-point lead. The Ladycats had some major difficulties stopping their opponents on defense in the fourth quarter and allowed nearly 20 points as Schulenburg stormed back.

Paige Pavlu led the way for the Ladycats both in scoring and in rebounding. She finished one bucket shy of a double-double after putting up eight points and 13 rebounds for the team. Jaiya Cook almost came away with a double-double as well. She finished with eight points and nine rebounds, both of which were the team's second-leading totals. Pavlu, Kim Hinze, and Chandley Tolbert had three steals each as the team played stifling defense throughout the first three quarters of the game.
