NAVASOTA – The Weimar Ladycats are preparing to face off against their bitter rivals, the Shiner Lady Comanches, after taking care of business against the Thorndale Lady Bulldogs. After two-straight wins in which they displayed impressive showings on offense and defense, the Ladycats moved on to the Regional Final for a rematch against the team they defeated in the same round last season.
Game one against Shiner will be on May 22 at La Grange High School at 7 p.m., while Game two will be hosted by Columbus High School on May 23 at 7 p.m. If Game three is needed, it will be at La Grange High School on Saturday, May 25 at 2 p.m.
Game 1, W, 1-0
The Ladycats leaned on their defensive abilities to snatch a tight win in game one as the offense was held from having a big scoring day. Weimar had a relatively successful day at the plate, picking up seven hits throughout. However, the lone run scored by Hannah Fisbeck in the fourth inning proved to be the difference in the game.
Claire Pavlu led the way offensively with two hits including a triple. Fisbeck and Izzy Reeves picked up a double each for the Ladycats. Chloe Grifaldo, Madison Luckey and Alazay Moreno each hit a single as well.
The defense was anchored by a strong outing by ace pitcher Taylor Smith. Smith threw 10 strikeouts will giving up four hits and just one walk in a shutout effort.
Game 2, W, 4-1
The offense had a little more success offensively in the regional semifinal clinching victory.
The Ladycats got out of the gate hot, scoring a run in the first inning and following up with three runs in the third to seize the game early. Their five total hits were slightly less than their performance in game one, but each hit was impactful as they held on to their lead.
Izzy Reeves led the way with a perfect 3-3 performance at the plate including an RBI, a triple and two runs scored. Alazay Moreno also picked up a hit and scored a run, and Taylor Smith Picked had the biggest hit of the game with a home run.
Smith was also nails in the circle, throwing 12 strikeouts while giving up three hits and two walks.
