The Columbus Cardinals took on District rivals Tidehaven in the Regional Quarterfinals in a three-game series.
The Cards took game one but then Tidehaven came back with a win of their own in game two, but the Cards turned in a big win in game three to advance in the playoffs.
@ Tidehaven, W, 4-0 Kaleb Kuhn got the nod in game one of the series and he proved to be the right choice. As he had done all season long, Kuhn completely controlled the game from the mound.
He struck out 14 batters while giving up only two hits on his way to a shutout. Offensively, Lane Kulhanek and Trevor Berger brought the sticks for the Cardinals.
Berger recorded a double and a triple in game one while Kulhanek recorded a double. While they were making waves with big hits Britton Wolters was racking up three RBIs in game one on their way to a 4-0 victory.
Feeling confident in what they accomplished in game one the Cards looked to game two as they tried to sweep Tidehaven.
Vs. Tidehaven, L, 3-0 After shutting out Tidehaven the Cards were ready to put the nail in the coffin and send their district rivals packing.
Tidehaven came into game two with a purpose though because their season was on the line. Defensively the Cards still had a strong performance, James Janak recorded eight strikeouts and gave up two runs on two hits before Berger came in relief.
Berger got the last two outs of the game but gave up one run on one hit. The Cards had only three hits to their name, which was their downfall in the game.
With their offense struggling the Cards had frantically searched for answers because they were heading to game three. Which means they would be playing in a win or go home game with their season on the line.
Vs. Tidehaven, W, 10-0 The Cards came into game three and just simply handled their business. They did not sit back and wait for the game to come to them, they just jumped in headfirst in the high stakes game.
The Cards offense came back to life in game three scoring three runs on the bottom of the second inning to jump out to an early lead. They added five more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to increase their lead to 9-0 and they put the game on cruise control.
Defensively Dylan Zajicek was on the mound for the Cards, and he showed just how deep the Cards bullpen is this playoff. He recorded a nine-strikeout no-hitter to help send his team to the Regional Semifinals.
The Cards will play the winner of the Lyford and London series.
