The Weimar Ladycats defeated district rivals, the Ganado Maidens, in a three-game series to earn a spot in the Regional Semi-finals.
The Ladycats swept Gando, but they had to fight for both of those wins because both games were decided by only one run.
Vs. Ganado, W, 4-3
The Ladycats offense was the big story at the start of game one and they showcased just how potent their offense can be.
Hannah Fisbeck, Izzy Reeves and Taylor Smith all hit doubles in this game and were huge at the start of the game for the Ladycats. Smith was not done on offense though as she also hit a homerun for the Ladycats to help strengthen their lead.
Smith was also in the circle for the Ladycats, she gave up three runs on seven hits while striking out five batters. Gando put up a valiant effort in the sixth and seventh innings to score three runs to cut the Ladycats lead to 4-3.
The Ladycats closed out the game shortly after that and left game one with a win and momentum to carry into game two.
@ Gando, W, 1-0
In game two it was the defense of the Ladycats that stole the show.
The offense did play a role in this game, though, as Izzy Reeves hit a double in the bottom of the third inning to give the Ladycats a spark. It did not take long for that spark to catch fire because Chloe Grifaldo hit a single that drove Reeves back home for the only run of the game.
On defense Taylor Smith had a bounce back game in the circle for the Ladycats. Smith walked only two batters while giving up one hit and striking out 10 batters in seven innings.
The Ladycats’ one run in the bottom of the third proved to be plenty as they closed out the game with a 1-0 victory to continue their march through the playoffs.
They Ladycats will be playing against Thorndale in the Regional Semifinals where they will look to earn a spot in the Regional Championship game.
