Pavlik shines at State Golf Tournament

Weimar Wildcats senior Weston Pavlik traveled to Lions Municipal Golf Course in Austin, TX to compete in the State Golf Tournament.

Pavlik has been getting better and better each time he stepped onto a golf course this season and the State Tournament was no different.

The Lions Municipal Golf course was a rather intimidating course with plenty of hazards to throw golfers off of their game. There are sand traps, ponds, trees, tough greens and unforgivable rough.

The course is meant to be challenging though, and all the players there met the challenge with excitement. Pavlik started his day on Monday, April 29, and as he made his way through the course, he was well on his way to getting a good score.

He took his time and made sure he was hitting his shots with the right amout of force to maintain his accuracy. He also was taking notes of how certain holes play and what tends to happen to those holes.

He started to develop an understanding of the course and on Tuesday, April 30, he came back and put that knowledge to use. See, while every golf course presents its challenges most of the challenges presented can be solved in similar ways.

So, while Pavlik may not have faced these specific challenges this course offered he has faced similar challenges on different courses and knows how to handle them. As he made his way through the 18 holes on Monday, he finished with 86. He came back Tuesday with a better understanding of the course and put on a show.

On Tuesday, Pavlik came back with a vengeance and cut his score down by five shots. Amateur golfers know how hard this feat can be, and for Pavlik to do it in a real competition is impressive.

He scored an 81 on Tuesday to finish with a total score of 167 which placed him 32nd out of 72 golfers. While he did not capture the State Championship Pavlik was still one of if not the best golfer in the district and in a sport as hard as golf that is something he can hang his hat on to cap off his senior season.
