The Columbus Cardinals were crowed the Bi-District Champions after defeating Great Hearts Northen Oaks in a best of three games series.
The Cards’ defense was a big part of them winning the Bi-District Championship as they only allowed one run against between the two games.
@ Great Hearts Northern Oaks, W, 7-0 The Cards started their playoff series off with a bang by shutting out the opposition in game one of the series.
The Cards’ offense scored four runs in the top of the third then scored three more in the top of the fourth to hold a 7-0 lead heading into the final three innings. Lane Kulhanek was the only player to record a multiple base hit in game one, hitting a double in the top of the fifth inning.
Brody Tribe contributed on offense in a big way as well, recording three RBIs in game one which helped the Cards build their lead in the third and fourth innings.
While the offense added runs to the board defensively, the Cards were just as dominant epically on the mound. In game one the Cardinals went back to Kaleb Kuhn on the mound, and he had a great day throwing the baseball.
Kuhn faced 23 batters striking out 16 of them on his way to a no hitter in game one. Kuhn did walk one batter but that was the only runner he allowed on base and did an excellent job of negating the Great Hearts Northern Oaks offense.
The Cards needed to win one more game to call themselves Bi-District Champs and they came and handled business.
Vs. Great Hearts Northern Oaks, W, 11-1 Game two was a little bit closer than game one at the start, Great Hearts Northern Oaks were down by only one run heading into the fourth inning.
The Cards held onto a 2-1 score but then their offense finally broke through, and they began strengthening their lead. The Cards scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth before scoring one run in the fifth and sixth inning each.
Tribe again racked up RBIs recording four in game two to help the Cards grow their lead late.
James Janek and Wyatt Tipton combined their talents on the mound for the Cardinals in game two where they allowed one run on two hits while walking four batters and striking out 10.
The Cards closed out the game shortly after the Pair recorded their 10th strikeout and hoisted the Bi-District Championship.
The Cards will be looking to claim the Area Championship, too, when they face the Hondo Owls next week.
