The construction on the frontage roads on either side of I-10 in Colorado and Austin counties are the initial steps of a greater plan to widen the lanes on the highway. TxDOT provided an update on the current tasks by Webber, LLC, the contractor in charge of the project.
The total cost of the bid from Webber was $364,075,279.37. The construction’s duration is projected to take about five years until it is completed.
The contractors have completed the demolition of the overpass on County Road 92 as one of their main accomplishments.
They have a few projects that are currently in motion: Paving an asphalt detour on the inside shoulder of the westbound main lane to the east of County Road 92 from the east of FM 949, no projected end date.
Demolishing existing culverts at the Live Oak Bridge on the eastbound frontage road, no projected end date.
Building grade for a detour on the inside shoulder of the westbound main lane east of Bernardo, scheduled to be completed at project’s end.
Removing cable barriers, scheduled to be completed at project’s end.
There is a closure on the eastbound frontage road from Willow Creek to Crooked Road that is scheduled to be completed on May 14. The other road closure is on the westbound frontage road from Live Oak Creek to Coushatta Creek, scheduled to be completed on May 15.
There is also a detour scheduled at around the same time. The westbound main lane traffic will have a detour on FM 102 scheduled on the night of April 30.
The westbound frontage road at 1344 opened to traffic on May 1. The eastbound frontage road at 1645 is tentatively scheduled to reopen on May 8.
The eastbound main lain traffic is tentatively scheduled to switch to the westbound main lane inside shoulder between County Road 92 and FM 949 on May 17.
TxDOT will provide further updates as the project continues.
