Ladycats capture the Bi-District Championship

Ladycats capture the Bi-District Championship

The Weimar Ladycats played two games last week, one to get ready for a playoff game and an actual playoff game.

They played La Grange on Monday, April 22, and then Sabinal on Friday, April 26, and they won both.

Vs. La Grange, W, 8-1 Even though it was just a warmup game the Ladycats treated it like it was a playoff game.

They came in with an attitude and belief that they were unstoppable. In other words, the Ladycats showed why they have won so many State Championships, including one last year.

The Ladycats and La Grange were held scoreless in the first two innings of the game. Being able to score first in any sport is huge for momentum early on in a game and the Ladycats knew this.

In the bottom of the third inning the Ladycats broke through scoring four runs. They added on run each in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, while only giving up one to La Grange in the top of the fourth.

The Ladycats offense was led by Madison Luckey, Claire Pavlu, Payton Hudec and Taylor Smith. Luckey recorded two doubles with Pavlu and Hudec each recording one double and then Smith came up big offensively hitting the only home run in the game.

Defensively, Smith was just as effective giving up one run on seven hits and striking out eight batters. The Ladycats were letting their championship DNA show through, and they carried over into their first-round match against Sabinal.

In a three-game series the Ladycats needed two wins to get the job done.

They wasted no time and got right down to business against Sabinal. The playoff warmup game proved to be an excellent decision by Ladycats head coach Roger Maupin because his team jumped right into the action with no hesitation.

The Ladycats posted two statement wins over Sabinal. They remined everyone who still holds the title of champion and now they are heading to the Area Playoff Round.

The Ladycats will be facing Woodsboro within the next week, where they will look to add another Area Championship to their trophy case.
