The Lady Cards are Bi-District Champs

The Lady Cards are Bi-District Champs

The Columbus Lady Cardinals playoff journey is off on the right foot after they captured the Bi-District Championship Friday night.

The Lady Cards started the week playing against Shiner in a playoff warmup game, which they won 5-4 and carried that momentum into the Bi-District Championship where they beat Luling 15- 0.

The Lady Cards playoff warmup game against Shiner came down to the wire. The Lady Cards needed three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning if they were going to walk away with the victory and they did just that.

With two outs on the board, the Lady Cards rallied late on Monday night against Shiner to win the game. It was the perfect way to enter the playoffs.

The Lady Cards came into their game Friday a little bit looser but with the same amount of confidence.

Karlee Mathis was given starting responsibilities in the circle and man, did she ever deliver. Mathis finished the game striking out eight batters and only allowed one hit.

Offensively Mathis recorded a double for the Lady Cards on their way to victory. Equally as impressive was the fact that nine of their 11 starters recorded a hit in Friday’s game.

The Lady Cards offense was firing on all cylinders as they captured the Bi-District Championship 15-0 over Luling. 10 of those 15 runs were RBIs, the Lady Cards bat heated up at the right time and they benefitted from it greatly.

With the Bi-District Championship under their belt they know the road ahead of them is not going to get any easier. Their round two matchup is against Cotulla on Friday, May 3, in Kenedy, TX with the Area Championship going to the winner and the loser being sent home.
