The Wildcats’ path to the playoffs

The Wildcats’ path to the playoffs

The Weimar Wildcats still have a few games left on their schedule and looking at the current standings they are currently tied for fourth place with Shiner.

With both teams looking to punch their ticket without having to play each other to decide who goes here is what the Wildcats can do to help themselves lock up the fourth-place spot before season’s end.

The Wildcats are tied for fourth place with Schulenburg, so the easiest answer to this question for them would be to win out. Unfortunately, the hardest answer for the Wildcats is also to win out.

Looking at their last game alone they lost to Flatonia 11-0. I understand the rankings and the standings but to lose 11-0 in the middle of the playoff race is, to the least, not very good.

Losing 11-0 is never fun in all honesty but the Wildcats were a playoff team last season. So, to lose like that in a winnable game, it’s concerning.

The Wildcats play the first-place team in the district, Shiner, and then come back and play the last-place team in the district, Bloomington. Sounds like things may work out because they have a chance to pick up a timely win over Bloomington, but the catch is Schulenburg also plays Bloomington before the end of the season.

Both games are must win games because while they are the last-place team in the district but a team with nothing to lose is always the most dangerous team on the schedule. Basically, what that means is the Wildcats are already in the playoffs.

In the playoffs one loss means you go home and these two games for the Wildcats are no different. There are other scenarios the Wildcats can get into the playoffs if Schulenburg loses one of their final games. But why rely on other teams when there is an opportunity for them to do it themselves.

This is where the Wildcats can show who they really are as a team, in a season full of highs and lows, elation and frustration, it comes down to two games for the Wildcats, it is time to show how bad they want it.
