Ladycats back to defend their title

Ladycats back to defend their title

The Weimar Ladycats Softball team won their last district game of the season over Flatonia on Monday, April 15, to return to the playoffs and defend their title.

The Ladycats defeated Flatonia 12-1 thanks to a great one-two punch of infectious offense and stonewall defense.

The Ladycats’ offense is the worst kept secret in all of High School softball. They are good, and teams know it, but still cannot stop them.

Teams do a good job of holding the Ladycats offense in check some games, but they always break through, so there are opportunities for opposing teams to score runs in the meantime, but the Ladycats defense is just as good as the offense.

Looking at this game that fax is supported even more the game was tied at the end of the first inning at 1-1. Then Flatonia held the Ladycats to zero runs in the second, but the Ladycats and their defense held Flatonia to zero runs for the rest of the game.

Taylor Smith was in the circle again for the Ladycats and she flexed her talents in a big way. Smith delivered a seven-inning performance that saw her give up one run on six hits while walking two batters and striking out 15 batters.

Smith faced 31 batters throwing 119 pitches 82 of which were strikes (68.9% strikes) making it extremely difficult for Flatonia to find any offense throughout the game.

The Ladycats offense bounced back in the third inning where they scored two more runs but their offense did not break through until the seventh inning. The Ladycats scored seven runs in the top of the seventh to but the game completely out of reach and set their sights on playoff action.

The Ladycats offense saw four players hit doubles, those players were Smith, Hannah Fisbeck, Madison Luckey and Ashley Treece. Smith also contributed a home run to the winning effort which just added a cherry on top to her fantastic game.

The Ladycats are back in the playoffs and are looking to defend their crown. Their journey back to the top starts on Friday, April 26, at Huber Ranch- Seguin where they take on Sabinal in a double-header in the Bi-District round of the playoffs.
