Lady Cards fly to the Bi-District round

Lady Cards fly to the Bi-District round

The Columbus Lady Cardinals played and won both district games last week and will fly into the first round of the playoffs this coming week.

The Lady Cards played Edna and Rice and they handled their business like they have all season.

@ Edna, W, 11-1

The Lady Cards started their week off on the road in Edna, but they jumped out to an early lead regardless.

The Lady Cards posted a four run first inning to set the tone for their offense. They added a seven-run inning in the fifth inning and finished out the game strong on defense.

Allie Cranek and Mia Post combined their efforts in the circle allowing one run on five hits and striking out four batters. But it was the offense that had full control of this game.

Taylor Morrow had an outstanding game for the Lady Cards, hitting two home runs in the contest and helping extend their lead late in the game. She was aided by Post, Ella Berger, Jillian Miksch and Kaylea Foster who all hit doubles Tuesday night on their way to a victory.

The Lady Cards wanted to keep their momentum going and carried that aggressiveness into their game against Rice only this time the defense took center stage.

Vs. Rice, W, 12-0

The Lady Cards played their last regular season game of the season on Friday, April 19, against the Rice Lady Raiders, and they again jumped out to an early lead.

They held a 5-0 lead at the end of the first inning. They added seven more runs between the third (6) and the fourth (1) inning to make the score 12-0. On the defensive side Cranek had a great game giving up zero hits and zero runs against the Lady Raiders.

Cranek retired seven batters during her time in the circle before Peyton Drozd came in for relief where she gave up only one hit and had one strikeout.

The Lad Cards now look ahead to their first playoff game this season against Luling on Friday, April 26, at Weimar High School Softball Stadium.

Taylor Morrow hit two pivotal home runs during their game against Edna Tuesday night.
