COMMISSIONERS COURT
The Commissioners had a relatively light session at their April 22 regular meeting as they made several proclamations outside of their normal administrative proceedings.
The first few proclamations passed by the Commissioners were to recognize the service and sacrifice of police and correctional officers.
The week of May 5 through May 11 will be accepted as National Correctional Officers and Employees Week in Colorado County. Established on May 5, 1984, the nationally accepted day of recognition highlights the contributions of officers and employees inside of correctional facilities.
In the same spirit, May 12 through May 18 will recognize National Police Week, recognizing the contributions of local and national police force members. Officers who have fallen in the line of duty receive a special recognition on May 15 for Peace Officers Memorial Day, established on Oct. 1, 1962.
The month of May will be recognized as Mental Health Awareness Month after another proclamation by the Commissioners. The Court recognized mental health deputy Andrew Lopez for his contributions responding to mental health incidents around the county.
The National Day of Prayer will be on May 2 after the Commissioners accepted the proclamation to recognize a day of reverence and prayer, especially in the Christian religion.
Commissioners Court reconvenes on May 13 at the Colorado County Court House at 400 Spring St.
