Stanzel Family Museum celebrates 25 years

The Stanzel Model Aircraft Museum, located in Schulenburg Texas, is thrilled to mark its 25th anniversary with a special celebration on Saturday, April 20 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

This milestone marks a quarter of a century of preserving the rich history of model aircraft and honoring the legacy of the Stanzel family’s contributions to aviation and model aircraft engineering.

Starting in the 1930s, Victor and Joe Stanzel began producing model airplanes that were renowned for their accuracy, durability, and performance. Over the years, their model aircraft became popular among enthusiasts and hobbyists around the world. Their models gained worldwide popularity and recognition, earning them a reputation for excellence in craftsmanship and design.

The Stanzel Model Aircraft Museum was established in 1999 to honor and preserve the incredible contributions of the Stanzel brothers. The museum further serves as a cultural and educational resource within the community, offering exhibits, educational programs, and events that celebrate the art and science of model aviation. Through these initiatives, the Stanzel Model Aircraft Museum continues to inspire future generations of aviation enthusiasts and perpetuate the legacy of the Stanzel family’s contributions to the field.

Visitors to the Stanzel Model Aircraft Museum explore three different buildings, each uniquely dedicated to a part of the Stanzel story. In the main museum visitors begin their tour with an informative video about the Stanzel brothers, then guide themselves through the evolution of model aircraft and engage with a variety of exhibits. The tour then continues with a museum docent leading visitors into the original factory where the original Stanzel mail order model kits were produced. Also, in the factory a flight simulator awaits a brave pilot challenger. The tour ends at the beginning so-to-speak with a walk-through time as visitors are guided through the 1870 ancestral home of the Stanzel family.

One of the highlights of the event is the array of additional STEM activities that will be available for children and teens. Led by local science teachers, these activities are designed to spark curiosity and enthusiasm for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. way.

In addition to the STEM activities, there will be centrifugal art activities hosted by Arts for Rural Texas. Participants will have the opportunity to explore their creativity while learning about the principles of centrifugal force. This artistic component adds an extra dimension to the celebration, blending science with creativity in a unique and exciting manner.

For those interested in technology and aviation, there will be RC aircraft and drone demonstrations by Shamus Coughlin. Attendees will have the chance to witness these unmanned aerial vehicles in action, learning about their capabilities and potential applications. These demonstrations not only provide entertainment but also offer insights into the rapidly evolving field of aviation technology.

And of course, no celebration would be complete without delicious food. A hot dog picnic will be provided, offering attendees the chance to relax and enjoy some tasty treats amidst the festivities.
