15 Raiders heading to the Regional Meet

15 Raiders heading to the Regional Meet

The Rice Raiders hosted the Area meet on their home field and turned in another stellar performance.

The Readers ended up having 15 of their athletes qualify for the district meet with 14 of them coming from the boys’ team.

The Co-district champs got things started in the field events specifically the Discus, High Jump and Shot put. Dyren Johnson will be representing the Raiders in the Discus event at the Regional meet along with Tatiana Mills in the girls Discus event.

They will be joined by Robert Bennett and RJ Myers who will also be competing in field events at the Regional meet.

Bennett has always been a top competitor in the field events this track season and now he’ll be able to showcase his abilities at the Regional meet. Myers, however, dominated the shot-put competition at the Area meet and was named Area champ for his effort.

Bennett also qualified for the Regional meet in the 4x400m relay along with teammates Jon Woods, Isaiah Castillo, Kordae Johnson, JD Fitzgerald and Keundric Pratt. They were a big part of winning the District championship and turned in a similar performance at the Area meet to qualify.

In the 800m Jael Serrano Valles, Hayes Dingler and Jake Morales all qualified for the Regional meet after dominating both the District and Area races. They are joined by Payton Englebrecht, who will take over the long-distance runs as he qualified for the 3200m run.

In the hurdle events, Tamarion Turner will participate in the 110m and 300m hurdles for the Raiders. Turner’s athleticism and speed has been on full display throughout the District and Area meet, never finishing lower than third place in either of the 110m or 300m hurdles.

Congratulations to all of the Raiders who qualified for the Regional meet because they still have a lot to prove and will look to make a statement the next time they run.
