Lady Cards get 10th district win

The Columbus Lady Cardinals picked up their ninth and tenth district win of the season last week after beating Palacios and Yoakum.

The Lady Cards traveled to Palacios on Tuesday, April 9, and then took on Yoakum in Columbus on Friday, April 12 where they only gave up one run between the two games.

@ Palacios, W, 7-0

Just like in the baseball game, the Lady Cards jumped out to an early lead against the Sharkettes.

The Lady Cards scored two in the first then three in the second inning to hold a 5-0 lead early in the game. Jillian Miksch and Karlee Mathis contributed heavily on offense with each recording a double in the game.

Aggie Rodriguez also had a good day at the plate hitting on three of her four at bat attempts and made it back to home plate twice to help extend their lead.

Defensively Allie Cranek and Mia Post combined for a great day in the circle for the Lady Cards. They combined for eight strikeouts in seven innings pitched gave up zero hits and zero runs and also did not walk a single batter.

The Lady Cards pitching put on a show Tuesday night and came back on Friday looking to do it again.

Vs. Yoakum, W, 9-1

The Lady Cards offense again showed up early in the game against the Bulldogs and held a 4-0 lead heading into the fourth inning.

Ellie Brown had a very productive night in the box recording a home run and two doubles, Rodriguez, Post and Kaylea Foster also contributed in the batter’s box with each recording doubles.

In the circle, Karlee Mathis pitched the game and again turned in a solid performance for the Lady Cards. Mathis retired eight batters, walked five of them and gave up only one run on five hits.

Mathis bounced back with a big game pitching for the Lady Cards and helped them earn their 10th district win of the season and will look to lock up second place in the coming week.

The Lady Cards will have an opportunity to do just that because they will be traveling to Enda on Tuesday, April 16, to try to get their 11th win an lock up the second seed before playoffs.
