Columbus golf competes in home tournament

COLUMBUS – The Cardinals’ varsity golf teams for both the boys and the girls benefitted from a familiar course after having some strong outings at their home meet on Monday, Feb. 13 and Tuesday, Feb. 14. Both varsity teams finished with top three placements in the team standings after their performances.

COLUMBUS — The Cardinals’ varsity golf teams for both the boys and the girls benefitted from a familiar course after having some strong outings at their home meet on Monday, Feb. 13 and Tuesday, Feb. 14. Both varsity teams finished with top three placements in the team standings after their performances.

The girls nearly took the top spot on their side of the competition with a second-place finish behind La Grange. Tha Schobel took the lead for the Lady Cards with a team-low score of 104. Jordyn Templeton and Kambrie Toppel were not far behind with a 107 and a 108 on the scoreline respectively. Katharine Burnett finished with a 112, Summer Adams shot for 117, while Kerrigan Faldyn and Julie Gobert shot 121 and 122 respectively to round out the Lady Cards’ team performance.

The boys finished in third place of their side after similarly strong performances. The Cards were led by the meet’s top golfer for the boys, Cullen Loessin. The tournament’s individual champion shot an 82 to lead Columbus. Following Loessin was Kaldon Roensch who shot for 89 and Parker Meyer who shot a 94. Adam Schobel rounded out the team with a score of 104.

The Columbus White team for the boys also saw action during the home tournament. Jackson Jones led his team with a score of 103, followed closely by Will Wilburn with a 106. Colton Carter shot a 114, Alec Wilburn shot a 117 and Damian Benitez shot a 125 to finish out action for the Cardinals’ JV unit.
