The Columbus Cardinals traveled to Rice Consolidated High School to participate in the District Track meet on Thursday, April 4.

The Cardinals had several athletes qualify for the Area Meet and even took home some hardware from the district meet.

Starting things off was the 4x100m and 4x200m where the team of Katlyn, Torres, Taylor Morrow, Faith Cleveland and Scarlett McClelland ran in both relays. The team came in second in the 4x100 with a time of 50.94 seconds and then were crowned District Champions in the 4x200m with a time of one minute and 47 seconds.

McClelland and Torres returned to the track for the 100m dash, where they took 2nd and 3rd place. McClelland finished with 12.53 seconds and Torres posted 12.82 seconds.

McClelland continued rolling in the long jump event, jumping 16 feet and four inches to third place. She was joined Morrow in the long jump event, and she jumped 16 feet and three and a half inches to come in 4th place.

Morrow also showed her jumping skills in the triple jump where she came in third place jumping 35 feet and seven inches.

For the Columbus boys’ team, the 4x100m relay and the 4x400m relay team both came in 4th place. The 4x100m relay team consisted of Xavier Woods, Adam Schobel, Braylon Fisher and Ty’Vone Whitehead and the 4x200m team consisted of Ezra Hill, Brody Vinklarek, Rylan Carruthers and Elijah Owen.
