The Columbus Cardinals won back-to-back district games last week and only gave up two runs while doing it.

The Cards played Industrial on Tuesday, April 2, and then traveled to Tidehaven on Saturday, April 6, where they won both games and shutout one of the teams.

Vs. Industrial, W, 9-0

Things started a little slow offensively for the Cardinals, but their defense remained as formidable as ever.

James Janak pitched six innings allowing six hits and walked two batters before being pulled with two outs on the board in the 7th inning. Cade Neumann came in and finished the game for the Cards on the mound.

Industrial could not find a way around the stout Cardinals’ defense, and later in the game, the Cards’ offense broke through. The Cards scored five runs in the 3rd inning then added four more runs in the 5th inning to make the score 9-0.

Britton Wolters and Korbin Burns each recorded a double and that was a taste of what was to come in their game against Tidehaven.

@ Tidehaven, W, 9-2

The Cardinals were on the road for their game Saturday against Tidehaven but scored nine runs and won the game despite the long travel.

The Cardinals’ offense got started early in the game and jumped out to 5-0 by the time the 2nd inning ended. Trevor Berger recorded the lone double in the contest for the Cards and was a big part of their offensive push early in the game.

Heading to the bottom of the 5th inning the Cards were up 9-0 and Tidehaven finally broke through scoring runs in the 5th and 6th inning to bring the score to 9-2 but Kaleb Kuhn and the defense ended up closing out the game adding another win to the Cardinals long list of district wins this season.

The Cardinals are currently 9-0 in district play and with the Cardinals traveling to Palacios on Tuesday, April 9, where they will try to improve to 10-0 in district play.
