Lady Cards improve to 8-2 in district

The Columbus Lady Cardinals improved their district record to 8-2 last week winning two district games and strengthening their grip on the 2nd place spot in the standings.

The Columbus Lady Cardinals improved their district record to 8-2 last week winning two district games and strengthening their grip on the 2nd place spot in the standings.

The Lady Cards played Industrial and Tidehaven last week and won both games by scoring double digit runs.

The Columbus Lady Cardinals started their week off enjoying home field advantage against Industrial.

The Lady Cards jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter but Industrial came storming back in the 3rd inning. Industrial scored four runs in the 3rd inning to cut into the Lady Cards lead but they reestablished their lead in the bottom of the 3rd by scoring two runs.

The Lady Cards scored three more runs in the fourth and had things on cruise control the rest of the game. Karlee Mathis and Mia Post combined their efforts on the mound combining for eight strikeouts allowing five runs on seven hits while walking two batters.

The Lady Cards were flying high after this win and traveled to Tidehaven for their next district game.

@ Tidehaven, W, 15-8 The Lady Cards started the game against Tidehaven feeling good on offense. By the end of the 3rd inning the Lady Cards were leading by a score of 15-2 over Tidehaven.

Post hit three doubles along with Mathis, Tayor Morrow, Allie Cranek and Kaylea Foster each recording one double. Morrow also added a homerun to her stat line and helped extend the Lady Cards lead.

Tidehaven started to come back later in the game and cut the lead down to seven runs, but the Lady Cards defense did just enough to close out the game and the team enjoyed the bus ride home.

Mathis and Post again combined their efforts on the mound to secure a win striking out 10 batters and giving up eight runs in nine hits.

The Lady Cards will be traveling to Palacios on Tuesday, April 9, to take on the Sharkettes and try to improve their district record.
