The Alliance for College & Career Student Success held their first annual 5K race in conjunction with the Schulenburg Sausage Festival on April 6.
It was a perfect day for a small-town run, with athletes traveling from as far as Austin or Round Rock or as near as a few blocks away from the start line. Chip timing was provided by Run Texas Timing Services.
Keegan Escamilla of Columbus was the fastest overall runner with a time of 18:59 and Judy Ashlynd was the fastest female finishing the race in 25:05.
Both received medals and gift baskets of ACCSS goodies and a $20 City Market gift card so they could buy some sausage. Full results are available on the ItsYour-Race website or on the ACCSS website, www. myACCSS.net.
ACCSS works to provide academic and career resources, guidance, and support necessary for students to obtain post-secondary credits or workforce career credentials. ACCSS partner schools currently include Flatonia, Schulenburg, Weimar, Columbus, and Fayettevi lle ISD’s. The program is housed at Blinn College – Schulenburg Campus.
These partners collaborate to remove barriers that might impact whether a student could participate in dual credit courses while in high school.
With the support of regional funders, community investors, and fundraising increased student support is put in place. Transportation and the cost of fees and tuition should not be a barrier to students interested in enrolling.
