WEIMAR — The Weimar Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 5875 met Feb. 14 to discuss community updates.
Jeanette Koenig said 370 student-made valentines were mailed to hospital ized veterans and seven new patriotic books will be delivered to schools next week. She said guidelines will also be provided for the upcoming school kid art/ singing contests.
President Charlene Muras said the next Buddy Poppy Drive will be Memorial Day and urged members to join the Action Corp on the VFW website.
Jeanette Hoelscher said she is sending in the January reports that are due and sent sympathy and birthday cards this month. She also said that Parkview nursing home has requested visitors to wear masks, and the next Parkview Men’s Coffee will be Feb. 17.
Sara Bansal said 120 thank you bags for nurses were delivered along with 100 dozen cookies to area nursing facilities on Jan. 25.
The Char ter was draped in memory of Bennie Knapp who recently passed away. Knapp served as the VFW Auxiliary Department President from 1995 to 1996.
For the Good of the Order, Koenig reminded members to fly the U.S. Flag on Presidents Day.
President Muras discussed the essentials of an auxiliary and the benefits of membership.
The next meeting is 6 p.m. March 14 at the Weimar VFW Hall kitchen.
