The members of the Daughters of American Revolution, John Everett Chapter, awarded checks to three local school libraries on Jan. 30: Eagle Lake Primary School, Eagle Lake Intermediate School and St. Anthony Catholic School.

Chapter America 250! Chair Connie Dittrich also presented a book on Spanish General Bernardo de Galvez to each school library. Marti Herring, chapter regent, and Donna Pustejovsky, chapter literacy committee chair, also helped present the awards.

Librarians Cherie McCain and Sylvia Gonzalez (Eagle Lake Primary School), Sharon Geigley and Kaylen Neubauer (Eagle Lake Intermediate School), and Joan Hill (St. Anthony Catholic School) were all excited to receive the additional funds to add to their collections or book drives, according to a release.

The donations were given to provide American history and biography books for the students, especially volumes that identify the contributions of underrepresented and diverse patriots who helped to win the American War of Independence, according to a release.

These grants were made available to the chapter in part through a national initiative, America 250!, in celebration of the nation’s upcoming semi-quincentennial in 2026, according to an organization spokesperson.
