COLUMBUS — The Colorado County Republican party discussed several initiatives and plans during their March 23 convention at the county multipurpose room. The event covered precinct republicans as well as county representatives.

The precinct convention began at 9:30 a.m. as 18 local representatives met to vote on 10 resolutions to help direct the goals of the local party. The county convention began at 10:30 a.m.

They discussed current republican speaking points such as looking to get Republicans in name only out of positions of significance as well as continued the conversation around other topics such as presidential nominee Donald Trump and abortion.

Out of the 10 resolutions, eight passed while just two failed. One notable resolution that passed was the unanimous decision to seek the abolishment of Daylight Savings Time.

The local Republicans also voted to support the Orange County Republican Party to censure Speaker of the House Dade Phelan. The resolution passed 17-0 with one member abstaining.

Part of the proceedings during the convention were to select and prepare delegates from the local party to attend the Texas GOP convention that begins on May 23 in San Antonio. To attend, the delegates must have voted in the Republican Primary or have signed an Oath of Affiliation to the party.

The delegates will attend the conference, carrying their local concerns and initiatives to the state level to potentially gain momentum for their chosen causes at a state level. The Texas GOP convention will conclude on May 25.

The following delegates will be attending the convention on behalf of the local Republican party.

Tom Kelley, Terry Braun, Gary Braun, Bobbie Gustus, Bill Reeves, Rollyn Yost, Bill Durbin, Pam Moore, Joe Moore, Herman Brune, Laura Transeau and Alex Schilling were selected as the delegates who will attend the GOP convention in San Antonio. Jean Ellis and Mart Herring were selected as alternates for the event.
