The school board for Rice CISD approved the calendar for the upcoming school year in 2024-25 during its regular meeting on March 18.
Students and teachers will have the second and fourth Friday of each month off from school.
Teachers and staff showed strong support in favor of the changes to the calendar, allowing for more three-day weekends throughout the school year.
According to the board, it is an attempt to create an attractive benefit for potential hires during a statewide teacher shortage.
To make up for the missing days from the schedule, the school day will be extended by about 30 minutes per day. Students will not miss any instructional time despite having the two extra days off per month.
The official calendar can be found on the district’s website at www.riceisd.org.
