The Weimar Wildcats needed extra innings to capture their first district win of the season.

On Tuesday, March 12, the Wildcats traveled to Ganado for their third district game of the season, and they picked up a 9-6 win.

The Wildcats came all the way back from a 6-0 deficit in the final two innings to tie the game up at 6-6 at the end of the 7th inning. The Wildcats then scored three runs in the top of the 9th inning before closing the game out on the defensive end of the ball.

The Wildcats late rally was aided by the phenomenal defensive effort from the Wildcats in the late innings. Huxton Kloesel and Weston Pavlik led the charge on defense as the two pitchers that helped lead the Wildcats to victory.

The duo combined for eight strikeouts and only walked three batters in the entire game. They kept Ganado’s offense in check for the second half of the game and the Wildcats were able to get going on offense.

While Pavlik had a great game pitching, he recorded two doubles while Wyatt Lacina recorded a triple. These extra-base hits fired up the dugout and the crowd and the Wildcats fed off that energy.

Pavlik had three RBIs in Tuesday’s game and hit two of his four at bat attempts without striking out. The team followed Pavlik as they headed into extras and he closed out the game with a strikeout to end the game.

The sight of excitement and joy from the Wildcats’ dugout told the story for this game as the boys celebrated with each other after overcoming a 6-0 deficit to win their first district game of the year.

The Wildcats’ next game will be against Shiner on the road on March 26 where they will look to have a faster offensive start in that game.
