The Columbus Lady Cardinals welcomed the Tidehaven Tigerettes on Tuesday, March 12 for a district game.
When the game ended, the Lady Cards won 6-4.
Much like the boys, the Lady Cards had an early offensive surge that gave them an early lead. The Lady Cards held a 5-2 lead heading into the fifth inning, but Tidehaven was not going to just roll over.
The fifth inning saw the Tigerettes score two runs and cut the Lady Cards lead down to one run. They were starting to build some momentum, but the Lady Cards had the home crowd on their side, and they mustered up one run in the bottom of the fifth to extend their lead.
Leading 6-4 now the Lady Cards looked to Allie Cranek and Karlee Mathis to close out the game.
Both pitchers had the same stat line at the end of the game with each recording two strikeouts, five hits, two runs and two errors. The only difference was Cranek walked one batter.
But the combined effort of the two Lady Cardinals was more than enough to send Tidehaven home with a loss in their pocket.
Not only that but the defense behind Cranek and Mathis was unbelievable. They made several athletic plays that only happen when team chemistry is high.
Tidehaven could not find anymore offense for the rest of the game and the Lady Cards secured the win.
In addition to her great game on the mound Mathis was a perfect 3-3 in her at bats. On of those three hits she recorded was a home run making her a major factor in Tuesday’s district win.
The Lady Cards got a nice break after this win over Tidehaven to enjoy their spring break a little bit, but on Tuesday, March 12 when they travel to Yoakum for their next district game.
