The Columbus Cardinals basketball team had a season of ups and downs but still managed to make a huge impact on the All-District roster.
Eight Cardinals were selected to the All-District team with two of them being selected to the first All-District team and one winning Newcomer of the Year.
Freshman Braylon Fisher was selected as newcomer of the year for his impact that he had on the team. Fisher played up and down the lineup and never complained; he earned all his minutes and made the most of them when he got them.
Fisher brought speed to the offense that the opposing teams just could not handle. He was a handful to deal with for several teams throughout the district, hence why he was selected for this award.
Next are the players selected to the first All-District team, Camdon Pitchford and Trevor Berger, both selected to the first. Not surprising, at all these guys were major factors in the team’s success this past season.
The Cardinals had the luxury of having a Batman and Robin on their team except both were Batman.
These two guys led this team to places they did not think they could go. Berger was the fearless one who ran into the paint and took on all challengers and smiled in the face of the opposition after scoring.
Pitchford was slightly different but just as effective. He meticulously broke down whatever defense was placed in front of him.
He was so good at finding weak spots in the defense and exploiting them for his benefit. Not only that but he can shoot from anywhere on the court and it was almost a guaranteed bucket.
This duo carried much of the weight this season, but they will be the first to tell you they could not have done it without the players that are going to be named next.
Jayden Trapp, Cedric Fitzgerald, Trinity Thompson, Elijah Usher and Rylan Carruthers were all listed an honorable mention for the All-District team. This group of athletes did an excellent job this season doing the jobs.
Not only that but every single one of those guys contributed on either side of the floor more than is to be believed. Trapp and Usher were unbelievable defenders while Fitzgerald, Thompson and Carruthers consistently scored around 10 points a game.
These five kept things stable while the opposing defense tried to keep Berger and Pitchford in check.
Congratulations to the Columbus Cardinals on their success this past season. Now, they can add All-District honors to their resume.
