COLUMBUS — The Commissioners Court are looking to slow down drivers around the county on country and gravel roads according to their comments at the March 11 Commissioners Court regular meeting.
The Commissioners held a public hearing on opinions around establishing a speed limit of 40 MPH on County Road 105 where they heard concerns about the limit being too low. The Commissioners cited new traffic and developments as the reason for slowing down the speed limit from the original presumption of a 60 MPH road. With more people moving out to these areas, the Commissioners wanted to create a uniform speed limit on these county roads. They unanimously approved the motion.
Another speed limit public hearing will be had regarding a partial gravel road on March 25. The hearing will consider changing the speed limit on Kleihege Road to 30 MPH from FM 1291 to Ehlinger Road.
Southern Prairie has earned the bid to construct a new Colorado County EMS location. Judge Ty Prause cited their quality customer service as well as their willingness to include stairs for free as reasons that helped the company’s bid get chosen. Construction will be funded by the American Rescue Plan grant which will also have funds allocated to the Colorado County Jail for repairs and improvements.
San Bernard Electric Cooperative received permission to place two power poles and a guy wire on 6 th street in Precinct 1.
Colorado Valley Telephone will continue to install buried fiber optic cable and pedestals at the intersection of County Road 250 and Scott Road.
The Industry Telephone Company had their application to install a communication line underground on Weishuhn Road accepted as well.
The Commissioners gave authorization to sell surplus and salvage property on Govdeals. com that will begin on April 8.
Individuals working for the county will be experiencing a change in their payroll as the county moves to allowing just a single account for direct deposits. This is a departure from prior years where the county allowed for direct deposits to be transferred from the payment department to multiple accounts per worker. This created more manual entries than necessary and opened up more opportunities for mistakes.
The next Commissioners Court will be held on March 25 at 9 a.m. at the Colorado County Courthouse.
