The Greater Colorado Valley Wellness Council is in the middle of a campaign to help bring awareness to the presence of Child Abuse in the United States in recognition of Child Abuse Awareness month during March.
In a flyer disseminated by the Council, they provided statistics involving child abuse reports in the country and the state.
In the U.S. about 600,000 children are abused a year with 15% of children initially experiencing abuse during the first year of their lives. Over 7 million children find themselves in the child welfare system nationwide.
In Texas, 182 children died due to neglectful conditions or abuse during 2022. About 61% of abuse and neglect deaths consisted of children 3 years old and younger. Male children represented more than half of confirmed abuse and neglect related fatalities.
To report suspected child abuse, call 800-252-5400 and visit www.nationalchildrensalliance.org for more on the issue of child abuse.
