LA GRANGE — The Red Door Fund for Mental Health, an initiative launched in 2021 by the Fayette Community Foundation, is proud to announce a successful community response to its third annual campaign, marking a significant milestone in mental health awareness and support within the region.

Inspired by the symbolism of a Red Door as a beacon of invitation and protection world-wide, the Red Door Fund strives to create a welcoming and understanding environment for those navigating mental health challenges in rural communities. Since its inception, the Red Door Fund has garnered tremendous support, raising $136,912 to date. Through strategic investments totaling $111,143, the initiative has directly contributed to advancing mental health awareness, education, and service accessibility within the region. These efforts have been made possible through collaborative funding and community-driven initiatives, empowering individuals to seek support and foster resilience in the face of mental health struggles.

The annual Red Door Fund Campaign, held throughout February, has seen an overwhelming response from the community. In a special recognition, on Feb. 12, 2024, La Grange’s Mayor Dockery passed a proclamation officially designating it as “Red Door Fund Day.” This proclamation further underscores the community’s commitment to mental health awareness and the transformative impact of the Red Door Fund.

This year’s campaign has once again ignited a wave of creativity and sincerity, with hundreds of Red Doors and driveways adorned throughout the region, symbolizing solidarity and compassion for those affected by mental illness. From La Grange to Schulenburg, College Station to Georgetown, and all the way to Dallas individuals, businesses, schools, and local governmental offices have embraced the role of being “Red Doors” by spreading awareness and support for mental health.

In 2024, the Red Door Fund looks toward the future with renewed determination and vision. With a generous $25,000 matching donation secured, the initiative aims to double its impact by investing a total of $50,000 back into the community. The support from the community has been paramount in meeting 27% of this match to date while furthering the mission of enhancing mental health awareness and access to vital resources.

“We are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support from our community,” said Cheryl Pekar, Chair of the Red Door Fund for Mental Health. “Together as a community, we have made significant strides in promoting mental health awareness and providing essential support to those in need. As we embark on this next phase of our journey, we invite individuals and businesses alike to join us in making a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by mental illness.”

To support the mission of the Red Door Fund, individuals are encouraged to participate in the annual campaign by decorating their homes or businesses with red doors throughout February every year. Additionally, contributions to the Red Door Fund will help meet the matching donation and provide crucial support to local individuals and families facing mental health challenges.
