St. Anthony takes home strong competition performances

It’s competition season at St. Anthony and the Saints have been bringing back some nice honors from various events.

It’s competition season at St. Anthony and the Saints have been bringing back some nice honors from various events.

Three Saints earned accolades at the One-Act Play competition last month. Joshua Newman was named to the All-Star Cast, while Colette Harrell and Deacon Barten were given Honorable Mention awards. The St. Anthony cast placed 4th overall in the competition.

St. Anthony students recently competed in the annual PSIA (Private School Interscholastic Association) academic contest in Giddings. Students earning first or second place ribbons will continue to the state-level competition held on April 27 at the University of Houston campus. 19 students from St. Anthony will compete in 24 events at the state competition.

The Saints track team successfully participated in Sacred Heart’s meet on Monday, Feb. 26 with 15 students earning 23 ribbons.

First place winners were Logan Glueck in high jump, Abigail Fuller in shot put and Charley Mc-Bride in high jump. Deacon Barten won 2nd place in the long jump but set a new St. Anthony track record with a 17’ jump. The previous record was 16’8”. The recent book fair earned over $1000 for the St. Anthony Library due to the strong turnout and support. Speaking of books, last Friday the St. Anthony Catholic Daughters read Dr. Seuss books to students for Read Across America week. The reading motivation program is held annually the week of March 2nd, which was Dr. Seuss’ birthday.

St. Anthony will be out of school for Spring Break 3/1-3/15.
