The Weimar Ladycats hosted a softball tournament over the weekend and came away with second place.

The Ladycats lost only two games throughout the tournament with their second loss coming in the championship game.

They started things off playing Danbury and coming off a three-game losing streak the Ladycats needed a spark. They played hard in game one, but something did seem different about the Ladycats.

Different in a good way, the Ladycats ended up securing a tie and a tie may not be a win but at least it ended the three-game skid. They came back and took on Navarro that same day and turned in a great effort.

They lost that game 11-7 but again the scoreboard did not reflect the corner the Ladycats were turning in their season. After that loss the Ladycats got some rest and came back for day two of the tournament where they played Cameron and East Bernard.

The Ladycats returned to form on day two and showcased what Ladycats softball is all about. The Ladycats won their first game of the tournament over Cameron 10-6 and things shifted after that.

The Ladycats carried that momentum into their game against East Bernard where they only allowed them to score one run in the entire game. Meanwhile the Ladycats offense continued to hum in game four and secured another win 4-1 over East Bernard.

As day two ended the Ladycats again rested up and showed up on day three of the tournament looking to win their semi-final game against Bellville to punch their ticket to the championship game.

The Ladycats stayed in the driver’s seat and did not even let Bellville get going. They completely dominated the game and walked into the championship game against Hallettsville.

Hallettsville, being one of the bigger schools in the tournament, expected to be in the championship game, but the Ladycats were on their home field and wanted to send a message.

Unfortunately, the Ladycats ran out of steam and lost the championship game 8-0. The Ladycats still walk away with a silver medal and newfound confidence in the season.

They will look to build on that confidence when they take on Schulenburg on Tuesday, March 5, where they get to enjoy their home field for another game.
