Raiders off to 3-4-1 start

The Rice Raiders baseball team is off to a solid start to the baseball season keeping themselves right at the .500 mark.

The Raiders are figuring themselves out a little bit as they play these early season non-district games and tournaments.

They have proven that they can keep up with teams both offensively and defensively. They Raiders are working on establishing a grit, no-quit type of attitude across all sports and baseball is a good example of that.

The Raiders have been known to be the team that is always counted out and baseball was no different.

Not many expected the Raiders to jump out to such a good start to the season and they have been loving being the underdog. Not only that, but the Raiders were also able to put together a three-game win streak to prove to themselves that they can do this.

Since then, the Raiders played in three games losing two and tying the other. In the two losses the Raiders were blown out 14-1 by Columbia but the other loss was only by one run.

Then obviously the tie was a tie, but they scored eight runs in that game. So, while the record may not look glamorous right now because they are still a game below .500 the Raiders can piece it all together come district play.

The Raiders will get a chance to get a look at one of their district opponents on Tuesday, March 5, when they take on Yoakum in a measuring stick game to see how well they can matchup against district teams.
