The Columbus golf team traveled to Weimar to participate in the Weimar golf Tournament on Monday, Feb. 26, and Wednesday, Feb. 28.

The Boys team played first on Monday, and they had a very strong showing taking home third place overall.

The Boys’ team had five players take on the course out in Weimar and three of them shot 90 or better. Leading the way was Adam Schobel, known more for his ability to quarterback the football team, Schobel showcased his finesse with a golf club in his hands.

Schobel shot a very impressive 83 on Monday and he really set the tone for the rest of the Cardinals playing with him in the tournament. Camdon Pitchford was right there with Schobel at the top of the leaderboard shooting only one more shot than Schobel to finish with and 84.

Parker Meyer was the third Cardinal that shot a 90 or better at the Weimar tournament shooting a 90 exactly. Will Wilburn and Colton Carter struggled on the challenging course but still posted solid scores of 97 and 102 respectively.

The strong showing for the boys’ team set the stage for the girls to show up Wednesday and handle business. But upon arrival, the Lady Cardinals were met with something that gets no golfer can control, and that was rough weather.

The Lady Cards battled not only the competition but wind gusts of 30 MPH and cold temperatures. With weather like this, bad shots become just a little bit more frustrating because the wind can also mess with swing patterns.

But the Lady Cards persevered and ended up taking second place in the tournament.

Leading the way for the Lady Cards was Kambrie Toppel who shot a 104 in Weimar. Katharine Burnett and Kerigan Faldyn were right behind her shooting 105 and 108 respectively.

Mady Garcia and Layla Schindler rounded out the Lady Cards in the Weimar tournament shooting 108 and 120 respectively. The Lady Cards dominated the par three’s and the short game.

Being able to get the ball to drop in one or two putts separated the Lady Cards from the pack and secured a silver medal.

Columbus’ golf team now looks ahead in their schedule and will be traveling to Waller for their next tournament where they hope to continue their success and have some better weather.
