Dear Editor:
TXDOT really messed up with the “new” lanes on Hwy 90. I wonder if anyone really considered how much the current turn lane and traffic flow lane would work? As it is, anyone turning left from Hwy 90 onto Hwy 71 Business has to wait for an opening between the vehicles traveling East or West, often getting stuck in the turn lane when the light changes back to red, and/or being stuck in the middle of the intersection and technically running the red light.
I feel that a better solution, even with the current left turn lane and the traffic flow lane for all East bound vehicles proceed for a certain length of time, while all vehicles traveling West bound remain stopped at red. Then it’s flipped after a few minutes, so that all East bound vehicles are now stopped at red, and all West bound has the green and can proceed.
Maybe it’s just me, but it makes more sense to have traffic flow in this way than what is the current system.
