Hello, everyone and welcome back to the Huddle where today we are going to be talking about the Rice Raiders basketball team.
They had an amazing season but unfortunately their loss to Poth eliminated them from making it to the big dance.
Reading the title I am sure you guys know where I am going with this and I am simply looking to the future because here’s the thing, the Raiders are something special brewing in Altair. Like usual we are going to start by looking at the roster and man is there a lot to like here.
There is only one senior on this roster and everyone else is a junior with one sophomore. So as good as the Raiders were this year, everyone minus one person is going to be back in a Raiders uniform.
After a season like they had this year that is a massive boost to the confidence heading into the offseason because they can just pick up where they left off. The crazy thing is that these guys are already itching to get back into it.
With everyone returning the biggest thing for them is going to be the development of their starting point guard Robert Bennett. Which let me just say this kid has it, whatever you classify “it” as he has it.
Bennett was easily the Raiders’ most consistent scorer this season and he’s only a sophomore. His touch around the rim, his vision, his shooting ability, ball handling, passion, energy and emotion
that he brings to the game is something I have never seen at this level.
So, if that guy can take a step and continue to develop and work on his game along side the talented group the Raiders already have at their disposal. Just look out.
The Raiders had kind of a weird end to the season with several games going to OT with a decent little split in the win/loss column in those games. They know they let some games get away from them and will learn from their mistakes.
When they tip off next season, they will have a roster of seniors looking to make an impact along with a junior looking to build off his stellar sophomore season.
It will be interesting to see how things will play out in Rice but that’s another discussion for another day, so for now, thank you for reading the Huddle.
